They can be fitted to the hose without removing the hose ends & are very secure & will not slide along the hose, unless you adjust them.

They are pictured alongside the roofing lead wrapped in duct tape weights that I was using for comparison :)

New Ray backplate

This backplate was designed to reduce the backache caused by the cylinders mounted across your lower back ! It has a secondary function of adding somewhere to mount extra gas. With the addition of a gas block, you can then use 2 mixes for diving the Ray (SCR) deeper & safer than possible with just one mix ! Two 3L or 4L tanks would provide both redundancy, alternate dil & extra bailout options. The pictures below show the backplate fitted to my Ray.

The setup I have is converted to CCR & I use various cylinders depending on what I'm planning to do. The Blue bottle is a 1L O2 bottle from an IDA71. The Black bottle is also from an IDA71 & is 1.5L & is the dil supply for shore diving. Bailout is via an Air2 inflator/DV. For normal use I use a 3L dil supply, but this leaves me a bit short of bailout for anything deeper than 30M & the extra weight tells on my spine. So the backplate was designed to allow me to mount another cylinder & to spread the load along my back.  This backplate can be used on any Ray & the only mod required is to cut out some of the black padding to allow the cambands through ! The bottom of the plate acts as a foot to stand the unit on & the main part of the plate makes it hold its shape instead of sagging like it does in normal trim !

The right hand picture shows a 5L cylinder mounted to the base of the backplate, I have tried this on (dry) with a 3L dil + the O2 & the 5L bailout in place & it is much more comfortable than without the backplate & just the 3L + O2 attached :) You can also see the additional P-port where my O2 sensors go below the ADV, I feed my KISS style O2 addition in via the P-port on the base of the scrubber.

I have not had it in the water yet as I only finished polishing the plate & fitting it yesterday evening. I can't do pool tests for another 2 weeks to sort out the weighting, so watch out for an update then. I have this plate drawn in CAD & if there is any demand, I could get some more made. It weights 2.7Kg so you can ditch some of the lead you need to sink a Ray.
