Details of my 10ft Porta-Bote

Brief introduction

Having spent many hours trawling the net & looking at different boats, I came upon the Porta-Bote site & found an amazing product. Here is a boat that requires no trailer & folds up flat for transport & storage. After much deliberation & reading the Yahoo Groups Porta-Bote Forum I finally decided to buy one.

The main reason for going with this folding boat is the fact that I don't have space to store a trailer mounted boat & need to transport the boat long distances (typically 100-200 miles) to use it. This 10ft boat weighs only 26Kg & is easily one man portable (another prime consideration), but can carry three people when required. This makes the Porta-Bote ideal for my needs. They come in four sizes, 8ft, 10ft, 12ft & the latest 14ft boat, visit the link above to the manufacturers website for more details.

So having made the decision to buy & having placed the order,  I arranged to meet the UK distributor on Monday the 16th February, when I visited the Birmingham Outdoor, Caravan & Boat Show & collected my new boat. Once I got home late that afternoon, I commenced with my first assembly, which is detailed below with pictures. One thing that surprised me, was the lack of pictures of the boats, both on the Porta-Bote website & anywhere else on the internet. To help remedy this situation, I decided to take pictures of the various components & assembly. More will follow, as I missed the opportunity to get some of the mid assembly shots due to a race against the failing light !
